چکیده
We show that cosmic rays in external galaxies, groups and clusters rich in gas, with an average flux similar to that observed in the Milky Way, could have produced the observed extragalactic diffuse gamma radiation. HIGH LATITUDE GAMMA RAYS ASSOCIATED WITH VIRGO
A more detailed analysis is made of the energy spectrum of the diffuse component of extragalactic gamma rays over the range of 0.3- 10 GeV, obtained fromthe EGRET instrument at the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. The derived excess energy spectrum of high galactic latitude, b > 60°, using intercept method shows that it is correlated with Virgo cluster (over lsr) and average Virgo intensity i...
متن کاملThe Extragalactic Neutrino Background Radiations From Blazars and Cosmic Rays
Blazar emission of gamma rays and cosmic ray production of gamma rays in gas-rich clusters have been proposed recently as alternative sources of the high energy extragalactic diffuse gamma ray background radiation. We show that these sources also produce a very different high energy extragalactic diffuse neutrino background radiation. This neutrino background may be detected by the new generati...
متن کاملGamma-ray background: a review
The gamma-ray background is still a subject under great debate. All phenomena in the universe emitting gamma-rays can contribute directly as diffuse emission or as an isotropic component from unresolved point sources. The question of the origin of the extragalactic component cannot be answered without determining the galactic emission. To discuss in detail all models resulting in gamma-ray back...
متن کاملA statistical detection of gamma-ray emission from galaxy clusters: implications for the gamma-ray background and structure formation
The origin of the diffuse extragalactic, high-energy gamma-ray background (EGRB) filling the Universe remains unknown. The spectrum of this extragalactic radiation, as measured by the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) on-board the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO), is well-fit by a power law across nearly four decades in energy, from 30 MeV to 100 GeV. It has been estimated th...
متن کاملEGRET Observations of the Extragalactic Gamma Ray Emission
The all-sky survey in high-energy gamma rays (E>30 MeV) carried out by the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) aboard the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory provides a unique opportunity to examine in detail the diffuse gamma-ray emission. The observed diffuse emission has a Galactic component arising from cosmic-ray interactions with the local interstellar gas and radiation as well an ...
